Improper lifting of heavy objects is the main cause for most back injuries which account for 25% of all injuries in construction. The thing is, nearly 100% of them can be avoided by using simple, proper procedures.

First of all, when the load weighs more than you can handle, ask for help... use a cart, dolly or forklift. Dont bend over using your back to lift. Instead, bend with your knees and lift using your legs while keeping your back straight! Have materials delivered close to where youll use them. Never jerk or twist when lifting a load. Finally, make sure walkways are clear and dry as slips and trips are a big cause of back injuries.

Dont Overdo It Tips for the Holidays Dont spend beyond your means. Dont excessively eat Christmas cookies. Make a snowman, but use your head when lifting him into place!

Be Safe and have a Very Merry Christmas!
