In Construction, One Strike, You’re Out.
John F. and his wife, Norie. Columbus, Ohio.
“At work or behind the plate, I’m safe every day for Norie, my better half for 24 years.”
Getting “Struck by” an object is cited by OSHA as one of the top four leading causes of injuries and death in construction – one strike from falling scrap wood or a tool while not wearing a hardhat can be all it takes. Be safe and always wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment on the job and on the field or whatever you do!
Learn more about John, his lovely wife, Norie, in this Q&A.
John, You’ve exhibited and exceptional safety record with Tradesmen. You have nearly 27,000 hours with no accidents. What drives you to be safe?
Family. Being safe on the job allows me to go to work every day; allows me to do everything I want to accomplish.
Tell us about the relationship with your wife?
We’ve been together 24 years. We like to travel and spend time with our grandkids. We balance each other.
How long have you been umping? Did you play ball?
I’ve umpired 30 years. Didn’t play but always wanted to be part of the game; would rather be on the diamond working a game than watching.
What got you to enter the construction trades?
Always liked to work with my hands and was looking for work at the time. Here I am, 24 years later a Journeyman Electrician.
Where did you get your Electrician Training from?
I had one year of Aviation Maintenance (Electric) Training. Then, went to Associated Builders and Contractors Trade School along with on-the-job training.
What is the favorite project or two you’ve worked on while at Tradesmen?
All school buildings are good projects from the ground up. Also like working on commercial buildings; the more time you spend on them the more you learn.
I now wire medical and book mobiles… putting in AC/DC Systems.
What do you like most about your employment with Tradesmen?
They find the wok and allow you to do your job.
